Benefits of Insulated Concrete Form (ICF)Construction

Building Homes
that are Disaster Resilient

Protect your home and your family from the devastating effects of natural disasters including tornados, hurricanes, wildfires and earthquakes by building your house with insulated concrete forms (ICFs).

COMFORT EVERYDAY. STRENGTH WHEN YOU NEED IT.

Lasting Durability

Strong and Safe ICF is Impact resistant from flying debris and Durability in winds up to 250 mph (402 kph) - equivalent to a F4 tornado, the walls of ICF have up to 4 hour fire protection

Comfort

ICF walls have continuous insulation that helps reduce thermal bridging and energy consumption in which you could see a reduction in energy bills from a wood framed house up to 60%

Sound Dampening

Airtight, highly insulated building envelope for consistent interior temperatures and superior sound-dampening to minimize outside noises for a quiet house

Sustainable Design

High energy-efficient levels of the structure reduce fossil fuels needed for heating and cooling, cost-effective and sustainable materials, ICF is a responsible choice for building an eco-friendly home.

Insulated Concrete Forms FAQ

Some frequently asked questions about ICF

Insulated Concrete Forms, or ICFs, are stay-in-place forms that are stacked, reinforced
and filled with concrete to form exterior and/or interior walls of a building. ICF
construction is an alternative to conventionally formed concrete walls, standard wood
or steel framing and concrete blocks (CMUs). ICFs are made from foam insulation and
remain in place as a permanent part of the wall assembly. Not only do ICF walls offer
robust structural integrity, they also provide impressive energy efficiency and interior
comfort.

ICFs offer a superior solution for building beautiful, energy-efficient homes that save on monthly energy bills. Nudura ICFs not only accelerate construction and minimize maintenance but also ensure that your home is durable and resilient against disasters.

A metal or plastic flange runs from the top of the form to the bottom, allowing a fastening strip for mechanical attachments, such as exterior siding, brick ties and drywall.

A wooden or vinyl buck is built and incorporated into the wall as it is being stacked prior to pouring the concrete. Once the concrete cures, doors and windows are installed as usual.

No. Utilities can be run through ICF walls by cutting a small groove into the interior face of the block with a hot knife. The EPS foam is thick enough to allow for standard electrical boxes. Duct work may need to be rerouted through interior walls, if not already designed that way.

Not really, and certainly not in the long run. ICF construction used to cost roughly 5-15% more to build with, but with recent increases in lumber prices that price gap has all but disappeared. In fact, you actually stand to gain, as it doesn't take long to recoup any difference in construction costs due to the large energy savings that come with an ICF building.

The assembly of the ICF blocks and placement of concrete takes about the same amount of time when compared to construction wood-framed walls. However, once the concrete is poured your wall is now structurally sound, insulated, and requires no further air or vapour barrier which can save you weeks or even months depending on the size and complexity of your project.
